I can’t shoot a basketball properly (help)
(Clip attached above)
So growing up I never really was an outdoor kid, I always stayed inside and mostly played on my iPad or spend time on my devices. I had friends but they were also the ‘indoor’ kind. And as you’d expect I never really had any experience playing sports like basketball. I’m 17M and 5’2 (yeah, I know, got cursed in the gene pool). However over the last year or so I’ve been getting into it lately and I’ve been hooping outside like almost everyday.
Time to time Id try to play with a bunch of dudes at my local LA fitness and I would have NO idea how to pass the ball, shoot it and even dribble it correctly. I struggle with even the most basic concepts of basketball and it’s infuriating the hell out of me. I’m always that guy who sits on the bench like 90% of the time because no one wants him on their team.
These days I’ve been only practicing solo to train my ability to shoot but I can’t shoot for shit. Once again I never played basketball as a kid & growing up so im naturally not used to shooting a basketball. I recorded myself a couple times and let’s just say it’s BEYOND bad. I shoot with my two hands and both of them go straight when I release the ball like a chest pass. (I’ve attached a short video clip of me and you’ll understand what I mean).
When I try to shoot with one hand (the ideal way to shoot, which a lot of people told me to integrate), the ball almost always never goes straight, and even if it somehow does it doesn’t reach the rim (my wrist strength is very weak so I can’t shoot as far).
I feel like there’s a lot of areas of basketball I’m struggling in aside from the already unfortunate height disadvantage ???? If you guys got any suggestions as to how I can improve my shooting form please I’d really appreciate it.
Anyways sorry for the long post I’m just pissed at myself for not knowing how to shoot a basketball properly at 17 frikin years old
Thanks once again
