This morning, the Russian army shelled the Kherson ice rink fourth times. The provisional toll is one dead and three injured, but Ukrainian rescue workers are still on the scene.

Kherson is one of Ukraine's largest cities, and the capital of the Kherson oblast (an oblast is a sort of state). This oblast (and three others) has been claimed by Moscow since the beginning of the 2022 invasion. The city of Kherson was occupied by Russian forces at the start of the war, before being liberated by Ukrainian armed forces. The Russian army was pushed back beyond the Dnieper (a major river running through Ukraine), but the city remains within artillery range of the Russian army. As a result, the city of Kherson is often subjected to bombardments, drone attacks and artillery missiles.
